A brief review of ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part One’ *contains spoilers*
I’ve just arrived home after seeing ‘Deathly Hallows: Part One’ at the cinema and my immediate overall reaction is that I loved it. It’s my fave film from the series so far (Part Two may top it!) and I think the fact that I haven’t read the book in ages probably added to my enjoyment.
I was particularly impressed with Emma Watson as Hermione. Her acting has improved significantly and, for me, this is the first film where I felt she really was Hermione. Likewise, Dan and Rupert continue to develop as actors and the interactions between the trio were some of the best yet.
I didn’t like some of the cinematography/special effects in the dream-like bits where Harry shares visions of Voldemort, but that’s just a personal preference. I think they were produced fairly accurately but they just made me close my eyes! Similarly, the snake bits made me hide! These are, of course, necessary to the plot and, therefore, don’t lower my opinion of it as a film or as an adaptation of a novel. I just wanted to make the point that I didn’t enjoy it in its entirety.
Having not read the book since it was released I can’t be sure of how accurate it was but, from what I remember, it seemed the closest to the text out of all the movies. Obviously this was mainly because the book was split into two films, which I am now 100% in favour of. It’ll be annoying having to wait for Part Two but I’m sure it’ll be worth it.
I noticed in the end credits that J.K. Rowling was one of the producers and I think that definitely helped make it as close to the book as possible. Jo hasn’t been as involved with the films since ‘Philosopher’s Stone’, which was probably my previous fave movie, and now I wish she’d produced them all as I think that would have caused a lot less frustration among Potter fans!
Anyway, I could go on but, in essence, all I really wanted to say was that I wholeheartedly recommend this film and am proud to be a fan. Go see it NOW!
